You can set your forage to firewood or stone. Search the road for rocks and vegetation/woods for tree branches. RNG can be against you or you can find way more branches than you need. From cheap materials or not, katanas are made for cuts, that's it. It can't parry nor block. You can't repair a plethora of weapons that you really should be able to at the moment in IWBUMS, though I expect the others to get a fix.

This is ridiculous how on the 7th foraging level you are going in the deep forest full of zombies, putting yourself at risk, destroying your clothes just to find two small branches and an empty bottle. Foraging is still the way. I usually have a handful of chipped stone within 1-3 game days of foraging. Eventually found out I could right-click shoes and with with them for various things including chipped stones. Make sure you only check the materials box when you first start foraging.
